I have seen a thread on a T4R forum that a 275/70R17 will fit on other models with out any rubbing, so does the 1 inch lift on the PRO clear the way for the 285/70R17?1) I haven't check if the spare tire rim meets the minimum width of 7.5in to fit 285s. Helps out with towing. I have 285's and haven't re-geared. I would definitely like the crawl ratio better but $3000 is the killer. Using stock backspacing, you can run both 275's and 285's with no lift and very minor to no rubbing. If you add wheel spacers, you are actually more likely to rub. Alignment is also important. There is no difference in suspension other than a ~1 inch lift from a Pro to any other 5th gen. They all have the same upper control arms and alignment limitations because of it. Lift height doesn’t do anything for tire clearance, you still have to push the tire forward with positive caster or do a body mount chop.I know TONS of 4runner owners run 285/70R17 tires on TRD PRO wheels 17x7" and SR5 alloy 17x7" wheels. HOWEVER, 285/70R17 tires calls for rim width range of 7.5-9" so technically minimum of 7.5" of rim width is required.
