<p>Certainly two different institutions but both great. While W&M doesn’t offer the opportunity to take classes at other institutions (with the obvious exception of study abroad) we do have an amazing array of courses offered here on campus as well as opportunities for independent study and research which allows students to really direct their curriculum.

I chose William & Mary - for me it was no contest. My three best friends all went UVa.</p> <p>My son is at W&M now (a junior) and his decision came down to W&M or Ithaca College Parke School of Communications (for journalism with a 1/2 tuition scholarship so it would have been less expensive than W&M OOS).<p>Mary Washington is a good school–quite a bit smaller than JMU. Finally, I agree with not writing off Virginia Tech just because it is best-known for engineering. In fact, per the latest NCES College Navigator database, Virginia Tech graduated 107 students with Public Health as their primary major. That’s a lot!
